Tameside Young Persons Service

Tameside Young Persons Service offers self-contained, dispersed, temporary accommodation, and support to young people between the ages of 17 – 25, helping them to move on to a permanent home.

The service is funded by Tameside Council and is contracted to provide accommodation and support. 75% of those supported are care leavers and 25% are other young people who require accommodation and support.

The team comprises of a Team leader and four Keyworkers with one Housing Management worker.

Each young person has an allocated Keyworker and Housing Management worker, who work with them for between 6 – 18 months helping them to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage their own home. By helping young people to build their life skills and improve their health and wellbeing, the service helps to prepare and move them onto permanent accommodation.

The Keyworkers:

  • Complete a risk and needs assessment co creating a plan of support
  • Help to identify strengths that can be built on, goals to achieve and actions to overcome barriers
  • Keep in regular contact
  • Refer and engage the young person with other agencies for specialist support

The Housing Management staff:

  • Help with tenancy sign up and clarify responsibilities as a tenant
  • Manage all tenancy related issues e.g., rent, maintenance of property and anti-social behaviour
  • Ensure the tenant is up to date with any tenancy related payments required
  • Offer advice and support where needed with administration and move on procedures

How to refer

Referrals for both care leavers and young people who have not been in care are made through the Single Point of Contact at Tameside Council’s Homelessness Team.
