Haven House in Ashton and Cotton Mill House in Hyde are new developments built and owned by Jigsaw Housing Group, providing accommodation and support for people in Tameside who have experienced homelessness. They are part of the government’s Rough Sleepers Accommodation Programme.
These purpose-built developments consist of self-contained apartments furnished to a very high standard.
Jigsaw Support provide a team of key workers based at Haven House that work with residents on both sites to tackle the barriers that led to their homelessness.
This support provides the residents with the opportunity to address their issues and integrate into the community in a positive way. It also provides practical support to help with budgeting, finances, home maintenance, wellbeing, life skills and relationships so that they will be in a better position to move on to a permanent tenancy.
This is a real chance for the residents to make important changes in their lives and move away from homelessness for good.
People who have experienced or who are at risk of rough sleeping are eligible for the service.
Referrals come from Tameside Housing Advice.
Here are some comments from some of the new residents:
“Living here has changed everything for me. I love the peaceful, calm environment and also being able to cook and eat healthy food – not something you can do when you are sleeping rough or just have a bed for the night. I’ve got a great relationship with my keyworker and if there are any problems they are dealt with quickly. I feel very safe and secure. I’ve got a focus and a plan now. I’m really thankful for this opportunity.”
“This place is brilliant. The staff are great and always have time to listen. My little girl visits me here and absolutely loves it. I’ve made a little corner of the room for her with a desk and somewhere for her to play. This is so different from my life before and I’ve settled in really well. I love it.”
